Introduction
Exercises: placing yourself in the room according to different questions such as
- «find your place in room – where is your country situated?» – country of origin
- «find country of holidays» (results ranking from Sweden to South Africa),
- «Where would you want to live and work?» (results: some chose different countries than country of origin, 5 persons are mobile)
- «very good students on one side of room» («Brain drain» group), others on other side (results: many excellent students)
- «one side those who get up early, others on other side» (results: What is early for you? ranking from 5 to 6:30)
- «form groups according to sign of cordiac (Sternzeichen)», «afterwards form a circle with all members in right order of signs of cordiac – date of birth» (results: communication is necessary)
Aims:
- explore the theme / subject
- development of ideas
- identify potential partners for your joint projects
- experience different languages / lifestyles / perceptions / constructions of reality / visions of our own future
Methods:
- group work
- impulse statements
- discussions
- interactive participations
Topic
«What kind of mobility do we need to create Europe's future?» – «World café» (e.g. mobility from outside, from
inside, at schools …??) – group work
Essence of the discussion
«Mind mobility»:
- Mobility of values, proof of work (anywhere you go, earn the same in equal profession)
- Mobility of professionals (from well-developed countries to developing ones – to help)
- Mobility of finance (financial support)
- Travelling on holidays – getting to know other countries, their cultures, customs …
- Mobility accompanied by mutual tolerance (mobility of cultures)
- Learn different languages – language crosses the borders
- Looking for things we have in common
- Students exchange – possibility to study abroad – the same conditions for foreign students as for home students – support from gouvernment (even when you study abroad)
- Exchange of experience (in many fields, e.g. work, science, art, education!)
- «mind» mobility – creativity – adaptability – being interested in everything new – being open – accept new things – preserve good old things and preserve good old things (values)
- mobility of politicians (countries representatives) – more communication
- migration – mobility of employment seekers – SOS – solve it somehow!!
«All mobilities are important»
- mental mobility: people need to open their mind to get to know new cultures, traditions, customs. There must be new ideas! Respect between countries is needed!
- people mobility: towards poor countries (meetings, conferences, tourism, to support them financially, to help them to develop work / creating workplaces, to bring advanced technology, scientific thoughts), poor countries – universities to study in rich countries, work – young students go to another country to learn language, culture, …
- young people mobility: young people must meet foreign people to develop future and to open their mind
- money mobility: values and changes (e.g. EURO) to encrease economy of the countries, the countries approach
- problem: people go to northern countries to study and work but northern people don't come to southern countries. Everybody goes to northern Europe (Germany, France). Wrong thoughts/stereotypes (like mafia in Sicily) sustain. Create a balance between European countries and Asian ones!
«Young people»
- better rules for mobility
- complex
- from the richer countries
- immigration – emigration
- finance: the gap between rich and poor countries
- mind mobility: you can break the borders in your mind
- young people: the core of mobility
- students: European studies, university – motivation, money, language
- language: german, french, english
- communication: internet, sms, person to person – young people
- equalized mobility
- basic common values: culture, understanding the different cultures
- social standards (e.g. health care)
«mobility leads to immobility»
- Nachbars Rasen ist immer grüner (jetzt) – in future home sweet home
- Politics: same salary, financial support for students, infrastructure (e.g. in Poland is not sufficient), competition, traffic (e.g. Holland is to small for so many cars – collapse)
- Flexibility: integration (laws, culture, tolerance, traditions), skills (many such as lifetime learning), language, flexibility of mind, exchange of information, creative mind
- Stability: social structure (security, pension, unemployment)
- Education: same standards, exchange of knowledge, same language, similar requirements for example bachelor or master programs
- Identity: language, take care, culture, history, diversion
- Disadvantage: everything is the same, simplicity, boring, no point in travelling around – immobility, too many choices
General results:
- positive and negative effects of mobility
- personal note: diversity of Europe: Netherlands too much freedom for individual but in Austria (in former times students could already travel abroad, but it was often not used – Austrians love their country)/Slovakia (not long ago mobility was not allowed!)... it is different
- Italy spoke about north and south: movement from south to north but not in the other direction – different origin countries give different aspects/viewings
questions / discussion:
- who gets benefit? – they should pay everyone the same (not polish workers less than dutch)
- brain waste in Poland: doctors immigrate – this is not waste but drain - but from perspective of country of origin it is waste (they investigate money and than people leave country – what can we do?)
- seen from individual perspective it is obvious that people move from e.g. Sicily to Milano to find work – they have to leave!
- Different standards in different countries
- Historical background: in former times 1,2 million Swedish left to go to USA, but that was good because (in comparison to poverty in beginning of 19th century), better to develop economy - now better economy – look at these problems in a bit of time!
- Pay the same salary – there must be rules/regulations – unfair! – create social/income/law/working legislation standards
School based projects / ideas
- Comparison
- How far is mobility supposed to go? – good and bad aspects of mobility
- Mobility in education
- Open the mind
- Possibilities
- Let the youth be mobile – let's kill the blockers!
- Rules/obstacles to go abroad
- Youngsters' opinions on living, working, studying, travelling abroad
- Is it possible (rules, Bologna Process – is it working?)
- The cost of studying abroad
- What is the problem with achieving mobility?
- What are the goals of mobility?
- Brain drain exchange
- Exchanging ideas, scientific thoughts
- Are there any limits for the mobility?
- Blockers: differences in payment, brain drain – let us develop brain drain exchange!
- Comparison of school systems in different European countries – create standards to create mobility and to make it possible (jobs, studies at university)
- What happens when people emigrate?
- What are the advantages and disadvantages working abroad? Or staying at home?
- Communication between countries (language …)
- Rules for mobility (students, work force)
