Short description of the Comenius Project: Tourism potentials in peripheral areas
All schools participating in the project (Orlova in the Czech Republic, Jastrzebie in Poland,
Neratovice in the Czech Republic and Freistadt in Austria) are located in regions qualifying
as peripheral both socioeconomically as well as in terms of tourism.
Therefore for the participants from these schools it is of great importance to identify both
the common features as well as the differences between the individual regions as part of a
transnational project.
So far the following project activities have been used to reach this goal:
-
3 project meetings in Orlova ( a kind of introductory visit to meet both the participating
teachers and pupils and get to know the space -pupils presenting their domestic regions on a
larger scale - and the visit also served to more closely establish the following steps),
Freistadt (presenting itself as a second space in terms of tourism and pupils participated
in the classes) and Jastrzebie (local exploration of tourism potentials and definition of
further strategies)
-
Creation of a joint website in different languages: the aim is to create a comprehensive
file with a description of the four regions under the aspect of tourism (general
geographic data, historical development, sights and activities, beauties of nature and
wellness offers, festivals and traditions, accomodation and transport infrastructure).
The websites, created by pupils, are continuously updated and completed, mostly via
e-mail. In addition to the pupils dealing with their own space (research on the Internet,
libraries, museums, etc.) pupils also expand their knowledge on the area of the patner
schools whose Internet presentations are translated by the pupils into many different
languages (English, German, Czech, Polish, French, and Spanish).
-
Video recordings for a project film (own and third-party-view): at the individual project
meetings the pupils whose regular curricula partly include multimedia design make video
recordings which are then cut into a project film with voice-over in various languages. In
addition, every school produces a film on its own region whose purpose is to point out the
differences to the "third party film" made by the partners.
-
A questionnaire to identify strengths and weaknesses: in business management pupils
developed a questionnaire for guests in several languages available from many hotels all
year round. Its aim is to filter out the advantages and disadvantages of the individual
regions after the one year.
With all these already tangible results it must not be forgotten that we have come one big
Step closer to the principal goal of getting to know each other and in the process minimise
prejudices.
